When making the decision on what type of decking to go with it can be a long and lengthy process due to there being so many options including Hardwood, Softwood, Redwood and metal decking.
Hardwood decking is made from timber which has come from slow growing trees and including Oak.
Even though hardwood is a more expensive it is more a long term decking solution. Due to being made by these slow grown woods, hardwood tends to be more durable and hard wearing compared to other types of decking such as softwood and metal.
Softwood Decking is made from timber which has come from faster growing trees such as Cedar, Fir, Pine and Hemlock and tend to be yellow or red.
This type of decking is more popular due to how cheap it is compared to other types however it is likely that softwood decking is said to be not as durable or strong and would therefore need replacing a lot sooner than other types.
Metal Decking such as aluminium offers a completely different yet modern style. This type of decking benefits from being low maintenance.
Similar to hardwood, aluminium decking is more durable and long lasting compared to softwood, therefore it is overall more cost effective. Due to being a metal rather than wood there is no need to worry about cracking, rot, mould & mildew.
Metal Decking is also for resistance whereas wood decking is not.
